Reminiscing The Old Days...

Yesterday's 41st National Day Celebration was somewhat nostalgic for me. Nope, it's not that I went somewhere special to celebrate the Nation's Birthday but it's more of a place that have some sentimental value in my life.

By the way, I went to find food (what else...) and of course to smell the once familiar smell I've grown to stick to.

As little as 3 years old, I could remember where I grew up but it's nothing like this place where I called HOME! I grew up in this place and spent half of my life there. That's the place where I spent my childhood, teenagehood, couplehood and of course adulthood. Where else but Ang Mo Kio Ave 1!

I've been wanting to eat at Hajah Miada's Nasi Lemak for a few weeks. It is located at the market where I learn to do my first marketing with my mum. Bee was ever so willingly to drive me there. (maybe he got no choice coz his wife is pregnant..that's the best part of being pregnant, you get what you want except for my Ban Mian :P)

So, we went out in the morning to have breakfast there. Once we reached the familiar road, I couldn't see the flat that was once my playing ground. It was demolished to give way to new modern flats. What was left was only patches of grass and barriers.

I could remember my neighbours like Hamzah (from the Unsangkarables) who always without fail teased me when I came back from school or the shop. My favourite roti prata shop, my favourite minimart that always give me the coconut "tombong" if you know what is that.

Okay..back to my destination. The once big and large carpark on the way to the market is now turned into block of new flats and multi-storey carpark. The once open and airy market has now got a new facelift with new names to the stalls and more stylo stools to sit on.

I went to the stall to order my Nasi Lemak and surprisingly the same sister who have been mending the stall for so many years recognised me very well. She asked me how many kids I have and so on and so on.

I ate the beancurd from the same shop that I bought from when I was very young. I looked around my surroundings like a child who is very curious about her surroundings. Everythings changed, so as my life however the people are just too familiar to forget.

After saying goodbye, we went to the wet market. The smell of curry powder makes me remember when my mum asked me to buy curry powders from them. I walked past the shop just to look and see when the lady stopped in front of me and said "Hi!" She must be shocked to see how BIG I've grown from the skinny me donkey years ago.

Then, I went to the vegetable seller to see if the stall is still around. True enough, the couple are still holding strong although now they looked very old. That's the uncle who always give me extra things when I did my marketing with mum.
Even the fishmongers remain the same. The feeling is just too nice to describe when it reminds you of your past.

I walked on along the area and told Bee what I did here and there. Once a while I shouted in amazement to tell him that the shop still exists and so on. He must thought that I'm crazy, however, he did have a tinge of nostalgic moments there as that's where we start our life as a pair.

That's the place where I brought my first son around in my tummy to buy breakfast and now I brought my second son in my tummy. What a cycle!

Having smelt the surroundings, we went home leaving me feeling very satisfied about my morning.

Another playing ground of mine will surely be the Ang Mo Kio Central, and I heard from my mum that it has gone through a lot of changes. That's the place where I always go three to four times a week when I'm pregnant with my first son. My son got to smell the place for only six months of his early life and from then on he only know Bukit Panjang!

So I guess that my children's childhood will not be same neighbourhood where I came from.

Isn't it nice to go back to the place that is near to your heart once. Oh..Yes..before I forget, Bee also remember the place where he sent me home before I got a scolding from my parents for coming home late. Those were the days!!!

Enjoy your holidays and have a great weekend, gals!!
